A cabin was constructed on a remote property in the mountains north of El Rito, New Mexico. The unique site informed every aspect of the design - completely off-grid with difficult road access, materials and systems needed to be carefully choreographed.
An existing 9' by 11' concrete slab was used as the footprint, and the massing was designed to accommodate a south-facing array of solar panels which provide all required electricity. The final structure functions as a sort of permanent tent, containing just the essentials - a sleeping loft, bathroom, hot shower, storage, and small common space.
